A Message From the Department Chair

Welcome to the website of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.  OU is the flagship university in the state of Oklahoma and we are one of its strongest units with an outstanding national reputation for quality research.  We offer a wide range of graduate and undergraduate research opportunities in biological chemistry, membrane biochemistry, solid-state materials, chemical synthesis, catalysis, genomics, biomolecular structure-function, computational chemistry, chemical education, and natural products.  For convenience, our faculty are grouped on our website mostly according to the traditional disciplinary areas of Organic, Inorganic, Physical, Analytical, Biochemistry and Chemical Education.

We are a collegial department with 28 full-time faculty and over 110 graduate students.  Norman is a college town with an approximate population of 96,000 (a 20% increase during the 1990-2000 period alone) and is a great place to live with a variety of entertainment and outdoor activities available.  I invite you to explore the webpages of our faculty and staff to learn more about our departmental research offerings and our teaching programs.
