On-Campus Student Resources


Here is a listing of some of the resources available to students at the University of Oklahoma.



Academic Resources

Assessment and Learning Center: CARN 200, 325-4336; The Assessment and Learning Center offers support in the areas of english/writing/grammar; reading comprehension; mathematics; study skills; test preparation; and career exploration. The center also carries out the COMPASS placement testing. Each semester they conduct the Student Success Series, a set of seminars given on subjects such as algebra, calculus, study skills, searching for scholarships, time management, etc.

Student Success Series: Free, non-credit seminars are offered by the Assessment and Learning Center to help students learn college survival skills. A variety of topic areas ranging from time management to career decision-making are covered each semester to help students successfully make the transition from high school to university life. The Student Success Seminars are available to all students at no charge and without any pre-registration.

Pre-Law Office: DAHT 224, 325-6420; The Pre-Law Office provides information for students interested in attending law school after graduation. The pre-law advisors can assist students in choosing a major and electives conducive to the study of law.

Premedical Professions Advising Office: RH 209, 325-2457; The Premedical Professions Office provides information and advising for students interested in attending medical, dental, or veterinary school after graduation. Students interested in a medical profession should contact the office as soon as possible after entering the University, as the premedical curriculum needs to begin early in the student's academic career.

International Programs Center: 339 West Boyd, Room 400, 325-1396; The purpose of the International Programs Center is to encourage and facilitate activities as a means of enriching our students' education and preparation for professional careers. (Dr. Atkinson in the Chemistry Advising Office can also provide students with some information about studying chemistry abroad).

Test Files: Housing Learning Center, 105 Muldrow Tower, Adams Center, 325-2452; Flint Study Center, 2nd Floor OMU, 325-6636; The Test Files Offices have copies of past tests for more than 600 undergraduate classes available. The 'Test Files' link is on the top of the hub.ou.edu page.

Tutoring: Housing Learning Center, 105 Muldrow Tower, Adams Center, 325-2452; Project Threshold, PHSC 517, 325-6261; These offices offer free tutoring in a variety of subjects.

Writing Consultants: Writing Center, PHSC 209, 325-2936; Housing Learning Center, 105 Muldrow Tower, Adams Center, 325-2452; Consultants are available to answer student's questions about grammar, style, organization of ideas, term papers, essays, and other writing assignments.


Student Support Services


Center for Student Life: OMU 3rd Floor South, 325-6873; The mission of the Center for Student Life is to develop and provide services and programs which contribute to the retention and graduation of a diverse student population and enhance the quality of campus life.

Commuter Student Association: ELLH 111, 325-1031; The Commuter Student Association represents the 13,000 off-campus students at the University of Oklahoma and offers services including apartment guides, roommate referral service, and intramural teams.

Project Threshold: PHSC 517, 325-6261; The Project Threshold office provides personal, academic, and financial aid counseling and tutorial assistance for students from educationally and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.


Computer Services


Computer Labs: Computer labs are set up throughout campus in order to offer students access to word-processing, spreadsheets and data graphing, research, email access and internet exploration. The department web-page lists all the labs and contact information.

Technology Information Center EL 216, 325-INFO (4636); The Technology Information Center offers assistance for questions about e-mail accounts, internet connections, and software.


Career Planning


Assessment and Learning Center: CARN 200, 325-4336; This office offers career programs that help students assess their own interests abilities, experiences, and values. They also offer the Student Success Series.

Bizzell Library: Reference Desk, 325-4142; The reference desk can help students find career resources within the library.

Career Services: OMU 323, 325-1974; Career Services offers on-campus interviews, resume assistance, job matching, career fairs, and other services designed to help students in their search for employment.

OU Counseling and Testing Services: GHC 201, 325-2911; This office offers assessment tests and career counseling to assist students in making decisions regarding their career.

Exploring Majors: Sooner Room of the OMU, 325-4444 This series of workshops provides information to students regarding course requirements, salaries, employment trends, internships, and job placement for a variety of majors.


Other University Services


Employment at OU: Employment and Personnel Services, NEL 205, 325-1826; The Employment Office lists all the current job openings available on the OU Campus, as well as providing a bulletin board with a listing of job opportunities in the Norman and Oklahoma City areas.

Safewalk Escort Service: 325-WALK (9255); The service, which runs Sunday through Thursday, 7 PM to 2 AM, is staffed by student volunteers. Students who need to be walked from anywhere on the OU Norman campus to anywhere on the Norman campus, including all fraternity and sorority houses and University Apartments (Kraettli, Parkview, and Yorkshire), may call the SafeWalk service at 325-WALK.

OU Office of Financial Aid ROBT 125, 325-4521; This office provides information related to scholarships, loans, and other types of financial aid.

Goddard Health Center: Outpatient Care, 1st Floor GHC, 325-4441; Personal Counseling, GHC 201, 325-2911; Goddard Health Center serves to promote the physical and mental health of the OU community.

Housing and Food Services: WC 126, 325-2511; OU Housing and Food Services operates and maintains the OU residence halls, apartments, hotels, and campus eating establishments.

Parking and Transit Services ROBT 311, 325-3521; This office controls the University parking areas, public transportation, and parking citations.
