Spring
2007 Scholarship Opportunities:
Outstanding Student Mother Scholarship/Award
The OU Parents' Association is sponsoring an Outstanding Student Mother Scholarship/Award ($1,000 ). It will be awarded to a full-time female student that is also a mother.
The application is also available on the OU Parents' Association Web site http://parents.ou.edu or the Center for Leadership Development Web site http://leadership.ou.edu (under campus awards).
Eligibility: All undergraduate student mothers who are currently enrolled in at least 12 hours and plan to enroll full-time for both the fall 2006 and spring 2007 semesters are eligible to apply for this award.
The application deadline is February 12, 2007.
NOAA Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship Program
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Ernest F. Hollings (Hollings) scholarship program is designed (1) to increase undergraduate training in oceanic and atmospheric science, research, technology, and education and foster multidisciplinary training opportunities; (2) to increase public understanding and support for stewardship of the ocean and atmosphere and improve environmental literacy; (3) to recruit and prepare students for public service careers with NOAA and other natural resource and science agencies at the Federal, state and local levels of government; and (4) to recruit and prepare students for careers as teachers and educators in oceanic and atmospheric science and to improve scientific and environmental education in the United States.
The Hollings Scholarship Program will provide successful undergraduate applicants with awards that include academic assistance (up to a maximum of $8,000 per year) for full-time study during the 9-month academic year; a 10-week, full-time internship position ($650/week) during the summer at a NOAA facility; and, if reappointed, academic assistance (up to a maximum of $8,000) for full-time study during a second 9-month academic year.
Eligibility Requirements:
• U.S. citizenship.
• Full-time junior in Fall 2007 in an accredited college or university within the United States or U.S. Territories.
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 (based on a 4.0 scale) in all completed undergraduate courses and in the major field of study.
• Majoring in a discipline area related to oceanic and atmospheric science, research, technology, or education, and supportive of the purposes of NOAA's programs and mission, e.g., biological, social and physical sciences; mathematics; engineering; computer and information sciences; and teacher education.

American Chemical Society Scholars
Program
"The American Chemical Society sponsors scholarship
programs for qualified applicants who want to enter the fields of chemistry,
biochemistry, or chemical engineering, and students seeking a two-year degree in
chemical technology. The programs are designed to encourage African-American,
Hispanic, and American Indian students to pursue undergraduate college degrees
in the chemical sciences and chemical technology. The goal of these
scholarship programs is to aid in building an awareness of the value and the
rewards associated with careers in science and to assist students in acquiring
the skills and credentials needed for success in these
areas.
Eligibility: To be considered a candidate,
students should meet the following criteria: - African-American,
Hispanic/Latino, or American Indian; - U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the
U.S.; - full-time student at an accredited college, university, or community
college; - high academic achievers in chemistry or science (Grade Point Average
3.0, "B" or better); - able to demonstrate evidence of financial need according
to FAFSA form (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and the Student Aid
Report (SAR) form; - a graduating high school senior, college freshman,
sophomore or junior intending to or already majoring in chemistry, biochemistry,
chemical engineering or a chemically-related science and planning a career in
the chemical sciences or chemical technology; *Please note that students
intending to enter Pre-Med programs or pursing a degree in Pharmacy are not
eligible for this scholarship.
Award: The amount of each individual award will depend
upon the availability of funding, the number of scholarships awarded, and
evidence of financial need. Scholarships will be given up to a maximum of $3,000
per year. The awards in the ACS Scholars Program, as well as those in the
co-sponsored programs are renewable.
